SOURCES OF PLANTING MATERIAL
I work closely with a local source of Saskatoon plants. Over the past few years, we have discovered that 2 year old plants are the best choice. We have a limited supply available for 2012 so don’t wait to order.
PLANTING TIPS FOR MICHIGAN GROWERS

Purchase quality plants

Select larger plants if possible for best survival

Plant in either Spring or Fall
-
Space 10 feet(between rows) X 4 feet(in row) for U-Pick
-
Space 18 feet X 4 feet for mechanical harvest

Keep well watered/trickle irrigation is encouraged
-
Test soil for pH and nutrients(pH range from 6.0 – 7.0)

Nitrogen is critical
-
Do not require low pH like blueberries

Plant as deep as possible for best stem development

Keep weed free

Protect from deer

Protect from wooly elm aphids with orthene the first couple of years

Protect from insect and diseases(contact us for spray programs)

Minimal establishment pruning
